About Natural Fibers

About Us  |  About Weavings  |  Why Choose CR Linens?

CR Linens specializes in natural fibers to enhance the luxury and healthful benefits of your fine linens.

Natural fibers produce fine bed, bath and table linens that are prized for their comfort, durability and beauty, as well as their ability to absorb moisture and wick away heat.  Linen fiber is naturally hypoallergenic and anti-static and it softens and preserves the skin due to its natural pH balance. Bamboo, on the other hand, is naturally anti-bacterial.

Organic natural fibers are produced without chemicals in the growing, weaving or finishing stages, and the organic production method is environmentally-friendly. Natural fibers are a renewable resource since they are grown in soils around the world, and they are not byproducts of petrochemicals and other synthetic materials.

HISTORY OF LINEN
Linen is the oldest textile material in the world, pre-dating cotton. Fragments of linen material and remains of the flax plant have been discovered among the remains of an archealogical site dating back over 8,000 years.

IRISH LINEN
Linen was introduced to Ireland during the early Christian times, and by the late 17th century, Irish linen was a well-established industry with a growing reputation for fine linen weavings. Only linen that is woven in Ireland can carry the prestigious Irish Linen Guild trademark. Irish Linen is synonymous with fine bed and table linens and it is prized the world over for its luxuriousness, durability, and beauty. Fine linen bedding is one of life's great luxuries that becomes softer with each washing. In hot weather it absorbs moisture and heat, and in cool weather it retains the body's heat. Linen softens and preserves the skin with its natural pH balance.

Fine Irish Linen damask table linens are works of art, and due to their ability to resist stains and withstand repeated washings, they can be treasured for a lifetime and for generations to come.

100 PERCENT LINEN
Linen that is woven outside of Ireland cannot be called Irish linen, although it is also woven from the flax fiber. Fine linens are woven in France, Italy, Belgium and China, and these beautiful bed, bath and table linens are as luxurious as they are healthful.

HISTORY OF COTTON:
Although the precise date of man's first use of cotton is unknown, scientists found the presence of cotton cloth in caves in Mexico over 7,000 years ago. Cotton was grown and woven into cloth 3,000 B.C. in the Indus River Valley in Pakistan, and along the Nile River in Egypt. Merchant traders introduced cotton to Europe around 800 A.D. . By 1500 A.D. cotton was known worldwide. Today, cotton is the most widely used fiber throughout the world.

THE CHARACTERISTICS OF HIGH QUALITY COTTON
The highest quality cottons have a long staple that allows them to be spun into fine yarns that are soft and lustrous, yet strong and durable. Egyptian cotton, only produced in Egypt, is highly valued for having the longest staple that is approximately double the length of other varieties.

TURKISH TOWELS ARE THE GOLD STANDARD.
The finest towels in the world are from the Izmir Region of Turkey. Known as the Gold Standard,
Turkish towels are prized for their heavy weight, absorbancy and durability.

The ability to absorb liquid is another characteristic of high quality cotton. It can absorb dyes well for vibrant and long lasting color, and it produces towels and robes capable of holding significant amounts of moisture. The highest quality cottons produced in the United States are the Pima and Supima varieties, also known for their soft hand and durability.

BAMBOO

Healthful Benefits of Bamboo
Linens manufactured with the bamboo fiber wick away moisture, block bacteria growth and are comfortable for hot, humid nights. Bamboo is often used with cotton to enhance cotton's ability to absorb moisture, and because bamboo has natural anti-bacterial properties.

"The natural antibacterial properties of bamboo fabric come from an inherent quality of bamboo commonly called "bamboo kun." Bamboo does not require the use of pesticides due to this natural antifungal antibacterial agent. It is rarely attacked by pests or infected by pathogen. The same natural substance that protects bamboo growing in the field, functions in the spun bamboo fibers."
